Habit 7: Sharpen The Saw Part 1
Habit 7 is all about renewal. Covey goes over the 4 dimension of renewal, physical, spiritual, mental, and social/emotional dimension. The physical dimensions is about taking take of our bodies through eating healthy, resting, and regularly exercising. The Spiritual dimension reflects back to your core, your center, like habit 2. The area in your life you feel makes you who you are. Whatever it is, focus on it and engage. The Mental dimension focuses on continued growth of our minds. Covey shares that this can be through education in school, books, media, and even television. However, he clarifies that an effective learner getting information from the media must be able to discriminate the different information circling the media. Lastly, the Social/Emotional dimension is about relationships and practicing empathy.
Reading this book has made me realize how important it is to pay attention to ourselves, our choices, and how we perform them. With the physical dimension, I notice how important it is to really take care of our bodies, and just how many different aspects there are to pay attention to. For instance, my parents, who work non-stop get the exercise and healthy eating but they don't pay attention to the other aspects like proper rest. I think proper sleep, rest, and mental health are often overlooked because it is not often spoken about. As my parents get older I can't even begin to imagine the rest they deserve. Now, as I am more aware of the topic I hope to help them realize its importance as well.

This week I focused on the physical dimension for my activity. For the past 4 days, I have implemented more nutritional foods into my meals, like fruits, vegetables, and protein. I have also been going jogging and exercising at home. Lastly, I have tried to relax more, renewing my spiritual dimension by focusing on my center. I have started painting again and it has been so refreshing. Overall, it was an amazing experience with even better results. I feel so accomplished. I feel healthy and I have noticed my energy levels rise drastically.
As I continue my journey through renewal I want to be able to focus on all 4 dimensions. Along with that, I want to incorporate my newfound habits into the journey. In a few years time I hope to have kept up with my physical and mental dimensions the most. At the point where I am right now in my life, I feel as though those two points are going to be the most effective for my future.
